I will be taking part in York Open Studios (YOS) again this year, I previously exhibited in 2013. One aspect of exhibiting this year which I am really looking forward to is showing my work with another artist, Julie Lightburn. Julie is a representational artist working in acrylics and pastels and noted for her original approach to painting local landscapes.
For those who are not familiar with York Open Studios: Over ninety artists and makers living or working within a ten-mile radius of the City of York will be taking part this year; representing a wide range of disciplines: painting, sculpture, printmaking, textiles, jewellery, photography, stained glass, wood-carving, furniture and ceramics. It gives everyone an opportunity to visit artists in the informal setting of their studios and homes – to just browse and chat – as well as the opportunity of purchasing an original work of art.
I will be joining Julie in her studio showing my contemporary fine art oil portraits. I use traditional techniques, well-known for my use of chiaroscuro, and excel in capturing likeness and personalities.
What’s in store for you? An exciting exhibition and sale of: original paintings, limited edition prints, postcards, and artist greeting cards, this is also a chance to view work in progress and feast on homemade cake! Join Julie and myself at:
The Bull Centre,
(next to Dean’s Garden Centre).
Please note: Fiona Calder will also be exhibiting in Stockton-on-the-Forest at her parents’ home, Sycamore House, next to the Fox Inn. Her digital Print Canvases and Giclée prints are inspired by flowers and foliage, created using an interesting mix of traditional drawing and painting techniques alongside contemporary graphic design.
We are open: Friday 17th April: 6pm to 9pm, Saturday 18th and 25th April: 10am – 6pm, and Sunday 19th and 26th April: 11am – 5pm.
