Yorkshire Artist Makes History – A big title – I know, so I guess you are wondering what I have done. Well, you will remember I completed a portrait of the previous Vice Chancellor of the University of Leeds, Professor Michael Arthur, back in 2014. On Friday (26/02/16) I went to see the portrait which is now hung in the Nathan Bodington Chamber and have had confirmed that I am the FIRST FEMALE ARTIST (and quite possibly the youngest) to be commissioned to paint the Vice Chancellor’s portrait for the University of Leeds – the first female artist in over 100 years!
What an incredible achievement (even though I may say so myself) – I am over the moon and for it to be the University where I studied and gained my degree makes it extra special.
Michael’s reaction to his portrait is one I will never ever forget – it was just brilliant – perfect in fact. I hope to go see the portrait again, with Michael, when it has it’s name plaque attached to the frame.
Thank you to the University of Leeds for such a wonderful experience and for supporting my artist practice.
