2014 has got off to a flying start for New Lights and myself, as the exhibition of short-listed artists moves to Newcastle and The Biscuit Factory.
The show opened on the 22nd January and runs through until the 4th April 2014. It has work by all the short-listed artists, including my Girl in the Flowered Dress self portrait.
The exhibition comprises of over 30 artists and the 8 award winners. More importantly the awards help to support emerging artists in the North of England to further their creative careers, new lights attracted entries from across the north, from young artists creating work in a wide variety of styles and media, from the ancient techniques of wood engraving and etching to prints, illustration and mixed media.
This year’s judges, who where tasked with the difficult decision of short-listing 298 entries, were: Norman Ackroyd, one of Britain’s most famous contemporary printmakers, Jane Sellars, Curator for Art at the Mercer Art Gallery, and Chris Wadsworth, respected arts writer and lecturer.
A Private View will take place on 7th March (6pm -9pm) to tie in with the launch of The Biscuit Factory’s Spring Show.
I am so lucky to have made the final short-list in this competition and cannot wait to see my portrait hung at this prestigious venue.
On an even more EXCITING note, I am one of three artists chosen to feature on The Biscuit Factory’s website!
