Proud to call myself a British Artist and happy to give you a peek at my oil painting process…
It’s been a year [of this crazy pandemic] and today (22/03/21) I celebrated another birthday in lockdown. This past year has been everything from fantastic and exciting to stressful and very difficult. I have challenged and pushed myself. I have achieve some of the things I set into motion years ago! Set goals and smashed them. I have also sat and cried – a lot.
The image opposite was taken on a day when, for my own sanity, recently, I locked myself in my studio.
I needed this so much…
A new direction, a more figurative work. Not so up-close portrait – though I still enjoy those immensely and will not stop making large portraits (I have one on the go at the moment Steven Bartlett, WATCH me paint.)
For now, this British Artist painting the British countryside. Beauty. The warmth. People. Spring. Full of life. Do you see it? I hope you can and you will.
British Artist Oil painting process…
Trying something different, the work looks as though it is from memory. Started with a photo shoot two summers ago. The process of this project, a big body of work, is based on memories of that freedom. Very much a part of this project. The memories of these walks and meetings still fresh in my mind and conjure up similar pictures of my own childhood, walks with my daughter too…
Here’s me rambling on (because I don’t get to speak to many people on a regular basis – you hear me right?!), I promised you a peak of my oil painting process. Less talk, here it is…
Proper painting, this is how to get a good foundation on your portrait painting, oil on canvas, possible in acrylic painting too. Old Masters, great painters and modern artists use this underpainting and draughtsmanship.
Enjoy and have a fabulous rest of the week!
